Grand Parade hosting New Year’s Eve bash

By Chris Halef

HALIFAX – Halifax’s Grand Parade will host a New Year’s Eve Bash featuring musical performances, cirque performances and fireworks, all broadcast on East Link T.V.

The official party begins at 10:30 p.m. Thursday, but the Emera Oval will also have free skating from 5:30 until 8:00 and again from 9:30 until midnight. Fireworks and musical performances will also be held at 7 p.m. and again at midnight.

HRM Spokesperson Jennifer Stairs said the weather doesn’t seem like it will be an issue this year.

“It sounds like it’s going to be a little bit warmer and thankfully the rain that we’re expecting will get out the system in the morning,” Stairs said.

“It should clear for the fireworks in the evening, and we’ve got some great entertainers lined up so we hope people will get out and see the show.”

Neon Dreams, Christine Campbell and Christina Martin are scheduled to perform among others, while a fireworks tribute is planned for Newfoundland’s New Years at 11:30 p.m.

Halifax Transit is offering free and extended bus and ferry service on New Year’s Eve to get people home safely.
