HALIFAX – Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for the Halifax-area with significant rain expected Sunday into Monday, and the Municipality is asking residents to help clear catch basins to avoid flooding.
A low from the southern United States is expected to bring the showers on Sunday night into Monday, one of two weather events headed to Atlantic Canada this week, according to the government weather service.
City crews are working to ensure HRM’s 29,000 catch basins are clear of ice, snow and debris to prevent any potential flooding.
Residents are being asked to report any potential problem spots to 311, or if it’s safe to do so, clear it by themselves.
The forecast calls for a large amount of rain on Friday with a high of 9 degrees, before temperatures are expected to drop below freezing overnight into Tuesday.
Environment Canada says another “vigorous system,” will likely make it’s way to Atlantic Canada by mid-week, with a chance of rain, heavy snow and strong winds.
