Report to come on construction mitigation plan for businesses

HALIFAX – New regulations aimed to help cut noise and dirt from downtown construction sites will go before Regional Council for approval next week.

The Chronicle Herald reports the plan from the Transportation Committee will explore things like street cleaning standards and possible changes to bylaws to protect sidewalk access during construction.

If approved, staff will report back to the Committee in May with a full report expected in June.

The plan comes after a number of downtown businesses have complained about a loss of business during construction of the Nova Centre.

Coun. Waye Mason tells the Herald he hopes the new measures will be in place by the early summer.
