HALIFAX – Nova Scotia’s official opposition said the elimination of most references to Provincial Information Centres in this year’s tourist guide for the region is proof the government is poised to close them down.
Chris d’Entremont, PC MLA for Argyle-Barrington, said the centres that used to appear prominently in the Doers and Dreamers guide, have now disappeared.
d’Entremont said the map breaks down the province into regions like Yarmouth, South Shore, The Valley, with each information centre marked.
“Those are now missing from the Doers and Dreamers guide, and the page that last year had the addresses, the phone numbers and those kinds of things has been omitted.”
d’Entremont said it’s his understanding that a decision to close the centres across the province was made last June, and wonders why the government has yet to make an announcement.
The McNeil government has maintained no decision has been made about the information centres.
The government closed centres in Pictou and Digby in 2015, leaving six remaining in Port Hastings, Amherst, Peggy’s Cove, Yarmouth and two in Halifax.
