Small apartment fire smokes out residents

HALIFAX – Residents were moved outdoors as Halifax Regional Fire and Emergency crews had to ventilate the upper floors of an apartment building in Clayton Park early Tuesday following a small single-room fire.

The fire broke out on the fourth floor of the building at 200 Willet Street just after 9:00 am.

It was easily contained when crews arrived minutes later, but still caused plenty of issues with smoke on one of the upper floors.

No one was hurt, but residents had to be evacuated for over an hour until the smoke could clear.

Fire crews are still trying to identify the cause.
