Plenty to do in Halifax this March Break

By Mark Hodgins and Andrew Pinsent

HALIFAX – March Break is officially underway on Monday and many families will be looking for things to do with their kids during the time off from school.

Luckily, there are a number of things on around town, particularly at the Halifax Common, according to HRM spokesperson Tiffany Chase, who said the Emera Oval has now been re-purposed for the spring and summer months.

“We have been operating for the past week offering in-line skating, roller-blading, we also have scooters and skateboarding on-site as well,” Chase said. “So we continue to invite people to come down to the Halifax Common.”

Chase said additional open swims will be added to some Municipal swimming pools throughout the week, to provide more options, for parents and kids alike. The Needham Pool on Devonshire Avenue and the Spryfield Wave Pool at Captain William Spry Community Centre are some adding additional swim times.

“People are always looking for things to do over the March Break, especially if kids are off school and families are looking for ways to stay active,” Chase said.

The Maritime Museum of the Atlantic is hosting ‘20,000 leagues under the Museum,’ Monday to Friday, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., while the Museum of Natural History will have animals from Little Ray’s Reptile Zoo on hand for an exhibit called “Nature’s Ninjas.”

Canadian Immigration Museum at Pier 21 is also opening its usually closed doors on Monday and Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., while continuing its normal schedule of Wednesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
