“Black Widow” rearrested for breaching conditions of release

HALIFAX – Melissa Ann Shepard, who has become know as the “Black Widow” for killing and poisoning her intimate male partners, has been arrested for not complying with the conditions of her recent release.
Police said the 80-year-old was arrested at the Halifax Public Library on Spring Garden Road Monday at around 3:40 p.m. when an officer witnessed her accessing the internet on a library computer.
Shepard left jail in Truro on March 18 after serving just under three years for her most recent conviction. One of the conditions of her release was that she refrain from accessing the internet.
Const. Alicia Joseph said the officer arrested Shepard without incident.
“He transported her back to Halifax Police headquarters,” explained Joseph. “She was subsequently found in possession of a device that was capable of accessing the internet, which was also another violation of her conditions.”
Police confirmed that device was a cellphone.
Shepard was charged with three counts of breach of recognizance and was released from custody. She will appear in Halifax Provincial Court on May 24.
