HALIFAX – The Nova Scotia Government and General Employees Union will choose a new leader this weekend at the union’s triennial convention.
The convention is already underway, and will see the union discuss a number of issues as well as holding elections.
Current president Joan Jessome said she will hand over the reigns when the election in held on Saturday.
“I’m anticipating Jason McLean, a correctional officer out of Cape Breton, will become the next president of the NSGEU.” Jessome said. “It’s still up to the delegates to cast the ballot, but at this point there are no other contenders.”
Jessome said McLean has been on the Board of Directors for almost 13 years.
Tomorrow’s elections will also appoint new executives to carry over to the next term.
