HALIFAX – The Nova Scotia Government and General Employees Union elected a new president on Saturday.
Jason MacLean, a correctional officer from Cape Breton, has been named the union’s next leader.
MacLean has served on NSGEU’s Board of Directors for the last 13 years.
“I don’t want us to be apologetic in who we are, in what we do, in the wages we make, in the pensions we have,” MacLean told union members following the vote. “I want us to say ‘yeah we have that’, and I want us to be able to inspire the rest of Nova Scotians to be union members.”
MacLean takes over from long-time President Joan Jessome, who was at the helm for 17 years.
