HALIFAX – Roughly 50,000 students of all ages in the Halifax Regional School Board head back to school Thursday and the board is reminding everyone safety comes first.
HRSB spokesperson Doug Hadley asks parents to be cautious preparing lunches, as the board recommends parents check with individual schools in order to avoid putting other children who suffer from allergies at risk.
“We do have a number of students who have life-threatening allergies,” Hadley said.
“I know it might be challenging for parents sometimes to try and prepare a lunch for their child, we do want to remember there are kids out there who have serious allergies and I know no one would ever want to put anyone at risk if it could be avoided.”
With an increase in traffic expected in and around schools, drivers are also asked to take cautions in these areas and are reminded the speed limit drops to 30 km/h in school zones when class is in session.
