HALIFAX – A second Canadian forces member at CFB Halifax is facing a charge of sexual assault.
Master Seaman Daniel Cooper of Naval Fleet School Atlantic is facing the charge in relation to an incident that happened during a deployment of HMCS Athabaskan in November, 2015, according to a release from the Canadian Forces National Investigation Service.
As well as one count of sexual assault, Cooper is charged with one count of abuse of subordinates.
The alleged victim is also a member of the Canadian Armed Forces.
Despite the charges, Captain Navy Paul Forget says will remain actively employed with the Canadian Forces until disciplinary action is given by a Court Marshall.
“He’ll continue to remain employed even through to his date with a Court Marshall, so nothing will change with his employment,” said Forget.
This comes just one day after Sgt. Kevin MacIntyre, a military police officer stationed at CFB Halifax, was charged with sexual assault.
