Mooseheads lose 4-3 to Wildcats in regular season opener

MONCTON, N.B. – The Halifax Mooseheads fell short in their opening game of the 2016-2017 regular season, losing 4-3 to the Moncton Wildcats at the Moncton Coliseum.

It was the Mooseheads drawing first blood when Arnaud Durandeau scored in the first period after an assist from Maxime Fortier.

The second period told a different story, as the Wildcats bounced back with Liam Murphy and Jeremy McKenna scoring back-to-back less than three minutes into the second.

William Bower extended Moncton’s lead to 3-1 with a goal at 19:59 in the second period.

Things began to heat up in the final 10 minutes, with Halifax veteran Maxime Fortier scoring back-to-back goals.

But it was Liam Murphy scoring the game winner for the Wildcats, his second of the night.

The Mooseheads ended up out-shooting the Wildcats 33-29.

On Saturday night, the Herd make their way back to Halifax to host Joe Veleno and the Saint John Sea Dogs in their home opener at the Scotiabank Centre.
