HALIFAX – Despite trying to convince their members to vote anyone but Liberal in this week’s provincial election, the Nova Scotia Federation of Labour says it will be able to work with the re-elected McNeil Government.
President Danny Cavanagh believes the government needs be fair in its collective bargaining.
When describing past negotiations with the McNeil Liberals, Cavanagh said it felt like bargaining with a ‘gun to the head.’
“We want to continue to work with them and we want to move forward. He doesn’t have to proclaim Bill 148, they can take everything off the table and bargain fairly,” he said.
“We have legal challenges going forward on Bills 30 and 37 and those are going to be very, very expensive.”
Cavanagh said there are many issues to be worked on, including the PTSD legislation coming forward and adds there is more to be dealt with than just collective bargaining with the unions.
