HALIFAX – A Canadian Forces veteran living in Nova Scotia has launched an online campaign asking for donations to support those impacted by hurricane Harvey.
Robert Dobson is hoping to fill his motor-home with the donations, and then make a delivery in person.
Dobson is working with a Houston-based organization Combined Arms, and says he started up the page for those who wish to donate to the effort.
He tells NEWS 95.7 after seeing Harvey’s impact, he was inspired to provide support anyway he could.
“On one of our Facbook sites there’s a lady who lives in Houston who’s from the eastern shore, and that’s where I’m from,” said Dobson. “She asked if somebody could reach out to the local church to get some help, so that kind of inspired me.”
Dobson says all monetary donations will go toward the purchase of equipment and supplies, and anything left over will be donated to the Combined Arms organization.
Dobson says donations of hardware, tool, and push-brooms are welcome, as are Walmart or other gift cards that can be used in the U.S.
He plans to deliver the items in person to a task force in Texas, before joining in and volunteering to do some hands on work.
