Shubenacadie Sam makes annual prediction Friday

With rain in the forecast Friday morning, there's a chance Nova Scotia's favourite groundhog won't be able to see his shadow.
February 2nd is Shubenacadie Sam's big day.
According to folklore, if Sam sees his shadow, we get six more weeks of winter. If not, spring will come early.
Head nature interpreter at the Shubenacadie Wildlife Park Wetlands Centre, Tabitha Cox, says Sam will be emerging from his borrow at 8 a.m.
“He's the first North American groundhog that makes that prediction,” she said. “A town crier will be here to help him out, a piper, and lots of politicians, media and fans.”
This is Sam's 30th spring forecast and Cox said it's a chance to enjoy a fun and long-standing Nova Scotia winter tradition.
“At least it's not going to be as cold as some years. Dress for it, and you will be rewarded with free admission to the park, hot drinks and cookies.”
The park opens at 7 a.m. and there will also be crafts, face-painting and a guided nature walk in honour of World Wetlands Day.
