Willow Tree Group criticizes decision to raise development height at Quinpool and Robie

By Chris Halef

HALIFAX – The co-chair of the Willow Tree Group is not happy with regional council's decision to change the maximum height of the proposed Willow Tree Tower development.

Regional council voted on Tuesday to change the maximum height of the proposed development site at Robie Street and Quinpool Road from 20 to 25 storeys.

That's not sitting will with Andrea Arbic who told NEWS 95.7 the decision goes against the wishes of thousands of Haligonians.

“This is not a vocal minority,” said Arbic. “Residents of HRM are not in favour of a building of this height. I would say in addition to the Willow Tree Group, there are thousands of residents across HRM who are deeply disappointed.”

Arbac said she wasn't surprised by the outcome, adding council seems to make hasty decisions.

But Arbic said the Willow Tree Group will not give up and will continue to advocate against the proposed development.
