Education minister defends hiring process for educational specialists

By Dan Ahlstrand

HALIFAX – The Nova Scotia education minister is confident in the process to hire a half-dozen new educational consultants for the province.

Earlier this week, applicants within the Halifax Regional Centre for Education received a email saying the process had been delayed in order to clarify conditions of employment.

Zach Churchill told Global News these new hires will not be members of the Nova Scotia Teachers Union like they were in the past.

“These folks are not trained teachers,” he said.

The provincial government said it wants to have six education specialists, psychologists and speech language pathologists by September.
