Dingle Beach closed to swimmers

There will be no swimming at Dingle Beach until further notice.

Halifax Regional Municipality says recent tests at the Sir Sandford Fleming Park swimming spot indicate bacteria levels have exceeded Health Canada guidelines.

“High bacteria levels can be caused by a number of factors, including weather conditions and waterfowl,” they said in a news release.

The water quality at all supervised and four unsupervised beaches in HRM is regularly tested in the summer months.

As of Thursday afternoon, Black Rock, Government Wharf and Kinsman beaches also remain closed due to high bacteria levels.

In addition, a risk advisory for Lake Banook and Lake Micmac remains in effect due to the presence of algae blooms.

HRM is asking the public to avoid swimming, wading or allowing pets in the affected areas until they can confirm it's safe.

Residents can check the status of their favourite municipal beach online.
