The MLA for Sackville-Beaver Bank is pushing for faster implementation of safety measures at a troublesome intersection in his riding.
The intersection at Old Sackville Road and the Beaver Bank Connector is a busy area and has seen it fair share of collisions — including a fatal crash in May that claimed the life of a 28-year-old woman.
Brad Johns says roughly 26,000 vehicles pass through the intersection every day.
“Four accidents in four months is not acceptable,” said Johns Friday during Question Period at Province House.
“Can the minister inform this house if the department has reviewed this intersection for a designated left-hand turning lane and a reduction for speed limit in this location?”
Transportation Minister Lloyd Hines responded by saying the province has been looking at ways to make the intersection safer.
“We have taken a look at that intersection, the issue of a left-turning lane is being reviewed,” he said. “Sometimes, if we don't have enough ramp area up to it, it creates more danger than it solves, but I'll be happy to find out where that's at at the present time.
Johns would like to see the situation dealt with in a more timely fashion.
