Ecology Action Centre concerned about pot packaging

By Matthew Moore

Legalized cannabis in Nova Scotia comes with a lot of packaging.

According to the Ecology Action Centre, just three grams of marijuana is surrounded by about 50 grams of paper and plastic.

“It's definitely overkill,” said Rebecca Brushett with the EAC. “People could argue it's paper, it's biodegradable, but the thing is it's still trees.”

Brushett said she will be meeting with Catherine McKenna this week to discuss cannabis packaging, and hopes changes can be made to reduce plastic waste moving forward.

In the meantime, Brushett suggests people try to make do.

“Find ways to reuse things,” she said. “Write a letter to Health Canada, just make your voice heard.”
