A new baseball league is starting up in Bedford this summer, designed to help kids play ball who wouldn't be able to otherwise.
The Bedford Challenger Baseball League is launching this summer.
It provides an opportunity for kids aged four to 18 with cognitive and/or physical disabilities to play baseball at a level tailored to their abilities.
Nancy Fougere's nine-year-old daughter Maddie lives with autism and epilepsy, and will be joining the league.
Fougere tells NEWS 95.7 the league is adaptive, so anyone can play.
“Anything from having cognitive delay, to autism, to more physical disabilities,” she explained. “Even kids in wheelchairs can play Challenger Baseball.”
No score is kept in Challenger Baseball, and all players are paired up with a buddy to help players learn and keep them engaged.
The local league is looking for sponsors, volunteers and donations for their silent auction happening in late June.
