Nova Scotia Power warns of phone scam

Nova Scotia Power says there's a new scam targeting its customers.
The utility says fraudsters call up and say if an immediate payment isn't made, the company will send out an employee to the customer's home and disconnect the power within the hour.
They even provide a fake employee name and truck number.
Nova Scotia Power says the scammer asks for payment via a pre-paid credit card. Sometimes they demand payment by gift card, which the utility says it does not accept.
It also says staff would never call up and issue an ultimatum out of the blue.
If you get a phone call from someone claiming to be from Nova Scotia Power, and you're not sure if it's real, you can call the company's Customer Care Centre at 1-800-428-6230 to confirm its legitimacy.
If you think you might be a victim of this scam, the utility recommends getting in touch with your financial institution right away and reporting it to police.
