Local charity group reaches milestone

By Shelli Summers

What started out as a grassroots organization in Halifax met a major milestone this week in raising money for smaller-charity organizations in HRM.

The co-founder of 100+ Women Who Care Halifax says their goal is to bring together like-minded women who support local non-profits.

Colette Robicheau tells NEWS 95.7 the organization has given $500,000 to local charities since 2013.

“And it's not only the donation, we've really educated people in our community of all these wonderful groups that are out there,” says Robicheau. “A lot of these people are grassroots, they're not the huge charities that we hear of often and that's part of what we see is that people like to reach out to these groups they haven't heard of before.”

Robicheau says it was announced this week that a client with the Halifax Refugee Clinic who experienced devastation during a recent storm will recieve $10,000.

She says steps are taken to make sure recipients get their donations as soon as possible.
