By Steve MacArthur

The IWK Telethon has been cancelled due to COVID-19.

The 36th edition of the telethon was scheduled to happen June 6 and 7 on CTV, but the IWK Foundation says the health and safety of those involved is the priority.

Foundation President and CEO Jennifer Gillivan says they're committed to finding innovative ways to celebrate donors and share stories of patients and families.

“The IWK Telethon is a tradition that has brought Maritimers together for the past 35 years and symbolizes the true spirit of our community. We have always been there for each other united in our connection to the IWK,” explains Gillivan. “In the weeks and months ahead, we are committed to finding innovative ways of celebrating our amazing donors while sharing the incredible stories of our patients and families and the exceptional care teams at the IWK.”

The foundation says work continues at the IWK during COVID-19 and anyone able to make a donation is being asked to do so, either online or by phone AT 1-800-595-2266.

A record total of 6,7 million dollars was raised during last years telethon.

The IWK Foundation is a champion of excellence in women's and children's health and medicine and works in partnership with the IWK Health Centre to support their vision of providing quality care to women, children, youth and families in the Maritime Provinces and beyond.
