Halifax man charged with attempted murder in Friday stabbing

By Meghan Groff

A Halifax man is facing several charges including two counts of attempted murder after a stabbing Friday on the peninsula.

Halifax Regional Police were called to Creighton and Charles streets at around 5 p.m. on June 5.

Two men were talking outside when they were approached by a group of three or four people.

A fight broke out and police say one man in the larger group stabbed the two men with a knife.

A suspect was arrested at the scene and a 45-year-old and 47-year-old were taken to hospital with what were believed to be non-life threatening injuries.

Investigators believe all three know each other.

In addition to attempted murder, 43-year-old James Joseph Robinson is facing two counts of assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace and breach of an undertaking.

He's also facing charges of assault with a weapon, uttering threats to cause bodily harm and two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking in a separate incident earlier that day which police say involved one of the victims.

Police are still investigating and anyone with information is asked to call 902-490-5020 or submit an anonymous tip through Crime Stoppers.
