Halifax Water crews busy getting ready for Teddy

By Meghan Groff

Halifax Water says it has been preparing for Teddy's arrival for days.

“What we do in advance of these kinds of storms is we fill our fuel tanks, make sure our backup generator supplies are working, we top off all our water reservoirs and we secure all the construction sites we have,” explained spokesperson James Campbell.

“And of course we have crews out around clearing as many catch basins as we can and working on flood-prone areas.”

Campbell said residents who are able can help out by clearing the leaves, debris and litter from catch basins in their neighbourhoods before the storm arrives.

“What we want is to get that water in the drain and away to protect homes and public and private property,” he explained.

An interactive map of catch basins in HRM can be found online.

If flooding related to the stormwater system is occurring in your neighbourhood, you can call the Customer Care Centre at 902-420-9287 or email customercare@halifaxwater.ca.

Campbell said crews will get out as quickly as they can, as long as conditions are safe.
