N.S. matchmaker says COVID-19 has more people looking for love

Halifax dating coach Jean-eva Dickie says her matchmaking business has never been busier.
Over the last nine months Dickie says J-E Matchmaking has helped connect more couples than it did in the three years leading up to the pandemic.
“Prior to COVID I find people were enjoying the single life, gallivanting around the city having a blast,” she says. “But when we went into lockdown, and they were single and by themselves, they started thinking about finding someone to partner up with in case another hard time comes in life.”
Dickie says pre-pandemic people were more particular about what they were looking for in a partner.
“But post-COVID, especially after our first lockdown, people were much more open to meet and go on dates even if those persons didn't check off everything on their lists,” she says.
During the record-breaking year, Dickie says she had to help clients approach dating in new ways.
“We did a lot of virtual dates especially in the first and second lockdown, then we were doing outside walking dates,” she says. “A lot of our dates are now cocktail dates where we are sending them to a restaurant they are sitting down and getting to know each other.”
J-E Matchmaking has a database of profiles and connects potentially compatible clients. Its services are available in all Maritime provinces, and include dating coaching, style coaching, and test dates.
