A freezing rain warning has been issued for most of Nova Scotia, including the Halifax area.
Environment Canada says we could see flurries start to fall Monday evening and overnight.
Meteorologists believe that could switch to a “prolonged period of ice pellets then freezing rain” Tuesday.
As of early Monday morning, Environment Canada's hourly forecast shows this happening around 6 a.m. tomorrow.
The forecast for Tuesday is calling for 2 cm of ice pellets to fall and, according to the advisory, it's possible the freezing rain could last for 4 to 8 hours.
“Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery,” the warning said. “Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions.”
“There may be a significant impact on rush hour traffic in urban areas.”
Tuesday afternoon, the temperature is expected to rise enough to switch it over to rain, and we could get in the ballpark of 15 mm.
“Heavy downpours can cause water pooling on roads,” Environment Canada said. “Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible.”
“Note that this situation may change and it will continue to be closely monitored as it approaches.”
