What’s open and what’s closed Labour Day weekend

Here's a look at what will be open and closed on the Labour Day weekend:
BUSINESSES
Labour Day is a designated retail closing day in Nova Scotia, which means you can expect most stores and businesses to be shut down on Monday. This includes grocery stores, NSLCs and malls.
Many pharmacies will be open, however, some may have reduced hours of operation Monday.
Expect banks to be closed Monday, some may also be closed on Sunday.
Several other businesses may be closed or have reduced operating hours on Monday, it's best to call ahead or check websites/social media feeds of specific businesses for more information.
TRANSPORTATION
Halifax Harbour Bridges says the MacKay Bridge will shut down to vehicles at 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept 3. It's not expected to reopen until 5:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 6.
Halifax Transit buses will be operating on holiday schedules Monday. The Alderney ferry will run every half-hour with the first ferry leaving the Alderney terminal at 7:30 a.m. and the final ferry leaving the Halifax terminal at 11:45 p.m. There will be no Woodside ferry on Monday.
On-street parking will be free on Labour Day.
RECREATION:
The Emera Oval will be open on Monday from noon to 8 p.m. Weather permitting, equipment lending will be open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Many other municipal recreation facilities will be closed Monday. Residents are asked to call ahead.
As of Aug. 31, all municipal beaches won't have supervised swimming except for Kearney Lake Beach, Chocolate Lake Beach and Penhorn Lake Beach. These beaches will re-open for supervised swimming on Sept. 4 to 6 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.
The Halifax Common Pool remains closed for the rest of the summer due to ongoing repair work. Work is also ongoing at Centennial Pool and it's expected to reopen in October.
SERVICES
All branches of the Halifax Public Libraries will be closed Monday.
Canada Post will not be collecting or delivering mail on Monday.
There will be no solid waste collection on Monday. If that's your day, you're asked to put your garbage, organics or recyclables out on Saturday, Sept. 4.
The Otter Lake Waste Management Facility, the Halifax recycling facility and municipal composting facilities will be closed Monday but will be open for regular hours on Saturday, Sept. 4 and Tuesday, Sept. 7.
The Household Special Waste Depot at 20 Horseshoe Lake Dr. will be closed on Saturday, Sept. 4 but will be open for regular service on Saturday, Sept. 11. A mobile Household Special Waste event will be held on Sept. 4 at the Mic Mac Mall.
The 311 Contact Centre will be operating on regular hours from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday.
The two Customer Service Centres that provide in-person access to municipal services and payments will be closed on Monday. Both will reopen on Tuesday.
