Scotiabank Centre getting new outside digital display board

It’s a sign of the times – Halifax Regional Municipality is seeking to replace the old digital display board outside the Scotiabank Centre in the downtown core.
City hall has issued a request for quotation to qualified firms that can remove the existing sign and install a weatherproof new one, with LED (light-emitting diode) technology, that would be guaranteed “for a period of no less than five years.”
The municipality issued a public tender on Tuesday. Bidders have until Dec. 21 at 2 p.m. to file proposals.
According to the tender document, the new sign will be 10 feet high and 20 feet wide.
“All equipment (is) to be of rugged construction and (have) weather-tight design and materials,” it says. “The system must be rated for exterior usage in wet and freezing conditions.”
It says a non-compulsory bidders’ meeting and site visit are scheduled for Dec. 8. (All parties must be fully vaccinated and follow provincial COVID-related guidelines in order to enter the building.)
The sign installation must “be completed without causing any damage” to the venue, a multi-purpose arena that’s hosted such events as hockey and basketball games, music concerts and the Royal Nova Scotia International Tattoo.
Opened in the late 1970s, the facility in recent years has seen several major upgrades take place including the installation of an interior video digital score clock, which was done in September 2019.
Events East Group, a government agency created through a partnership between the municipality and province, manages and operates the Scotiabank Centre. A long-term management agreement with Halifax Regional Municipality was renewed by regional council last year, the centre’s 2020-21 annual report says.
