Escapee from Burnside Jail facing a number of new charges

By Dan Ahlstrand

A man who had escaped from the Central Nova Scotia Correctional Facility in Dartmouth is now facing several charges in connection with time away from the facility.

Kings District RCMP say 43-year-old Ryan Taylor Wilband walked into a bank on Central Avenue in Greenwood on Tuesday armed with a knife and demanded cash from an employee.

Police say Wilband then left the bank with an undisclosed amount of money.

During that investigation, police were told than a man fitting the same description ate a meal at a nearby restaurant and fled without paying the bill.

About an hour after the bank robbery, Wilband was taken into custody and police recovered some of the cash believed to have come from the robbery.

Wilband has now been charged with:

  • Robbery
  • Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime
  • Theft under $5,000

The investigation into his escape from the jail in Burnside continues.
