The Department of National Defence and the Royal Canadian Navy are asking the public to review the boundaries set by Controlled Access Zones.
Canadian Forces say recreational watercraft have been seen entering the Controlled Access Zones, prompting the reminder to the public that entering these areas is prohibited.
Members of the public can find the Government of Canada-ordered zones in several locations throughout the Halifax Harbour.
“The Controlled Access Zone alongside HMC Dockyard is marked by bright white/orange or yellow buoys during the peak boating season (between the months of May and September). Although the buoys are not deployed during the off-season, October through April, it is important for watercraft users to be familiar with the HMC Dockyard Controlled Access Zone all year round in order to enjoy the recreational benefits of Halifax Harbour while respecting the safety and security requirements of our local Defence establishment,” the Canadian Forces stated in a news release.
The zones ensure the safety and security of Royal Canadian Navy ships, visiting forces' vessels, and the Department of National Defence facilities and personnel who work in the areas.
Canadian Forces remind the public that entering the Department of National Defence Controlled Access Zones without permission, either on water or land, may lead to a search of their person, property, or anything under their control.
