Driver charged after vehicle clocked at 198 km/h in a 50 km/h zone on Highway 102

Halifax Regional Police say a member of their Traffic Unit spotted a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed on Highway 102 near Bayer's Road around 10:55 a.m. Wednesday.
A radar check showed that the vehicle was travelling at 198 km/h in an area of the highway where the posted speed limit is 50 km/h.
Police pulled the vehicle over and charged the 25-year-old driver with stunting.
A stunting charge is laid when a vehicle is found to be travelling 50 km/h or more over the posted speed limit.
The penalty for stunting in Nova Scotia is a $2,442.50 fine, a seven-day suspension from driving, six demerit points being assigned to the driver's record and the vehicle being impounded.
In addition to the stunting charge, the driver was also ticketed for operating a motor vehicle without insurance.
