The Halifax Mooseheads were unable to solve the Rouyn-Noranda defence, as the Huskies defeated the Herd 4-1 on Tuesday night at the Scotiabank Centre.
The Huskies took the lead in the first period and never gave it back. Rémi Gélinas beat the Mooseheads’ defence and backhanded the puck over the pads of Jacob Steinman to give the Huskies the start.
In the second period Bill Zonnon added to the Rouyn-Noranda lead on the powerplay, hitting the post on his first attempt before burying it past Steinman. Lars Steiner added another in the second period, Zonnon taking advantage of a turnover from Steinman, finding Steiner in front who buried it into an empty Mooseheads net.
Callum Aucoin responded for the Herd with his first of the playoffs. Brady Schultz found Aucoin with a long pass before Aucoin fired a shot past the Huskies’ netminder Samuel Meloche, on the left wing side.
Alex Carr sealed the deal for Rouyn-Noranda in the third period, restoring their three goal lead with his second of the series.
With the loss the Herd are one game away from being eliminated as the Huskies have a 3-0 series lead.
Rouyn-Noranda claimed the three stars of the game. Bill Zonnon earned first star with a goal and an assist, second star went to Antonin Verreault with two assists while third star was awarded to Axel Dufresne.
