Lower Sackville home badly damaged by fire

Halifax Fire and Rescue crews were called to an address in Lower Sackville just after lunchtime on Friday after a report of a house on fire.

The first trucks arrived on the scene on Seawood Avenue at 12:31 p.m. to find the backside of a home fully engulfed by flames.

HRFE Assistant Chief Sherry Dean told CityNews that crews initially adopted a defensive stance, fighting the fire from the outside, but once they established a water supply changed their tactics and made entry into the home and put out the flames.

Dean said that all of the people living in the home managed to get out before firefighters arrived, and the Red Cross was contacted to provide them assistance.  The house is said to have sustained heavy damage.

Crews were on the scene for about an hour.  Investigators have been called in to determine what caused the fire.

There were no injuries reported.
