Mooseheads gearing up for third round series against Sherbrooke

By Chris Halef

The Halifax Mooseheads still have a couple of days before they take the ice in the third round of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League playoffs. The Moose will face the Sherbrooke Phoenix in the league semi-final after disposing of the Moncton Wildcats on Sunday 7-3, taking the 2nd round series in game five. Both squads are coming off superb seasons, with Halifax finishing 2nd overall in the league with 107 points and Sherbrooke placed 3rd, just two points behind the Moose.

During the regular season, the two teams only met twice, with Halifax winning their January meeting 6-2. The Phoenix took the second match 3-0 in February. “There aren’t many holes when you look down their lineup,” said Halifax Mooseheads assistant coach Brad Mackenzie of Sherbrooke. “They are a team that plays very competitive and is very well coached,”

Mackenzie says the Mooseheads match up very well against Sherbrooke, but the team needs to put in their best effort
