Power outages reported as Halifax sees thunderstorms, heavy rain

Thousands of Haligonians started the day without power on Wednesday as storms moved through the area.

More than 5,000 Nova Scotia Power customers were in the dark as of 6:30 a.m., with lightning being blamed for some of the outages.

The majority of the outages were in the west end of Halifax and in the area of Shearwater and Eastern Passage. Power was expected to be restored by 11 a.m. Wednesday.

By 9 a.m., most outages had been restored but thousands remained without power in the west end.

The power failures came as Nova Scotia was battered by another bout of thunderstorms and heavy rain overnight into early Wednesday morning.
