Halifax area under a rainfall warning today and tonight

By CityNews Halifax Staff

A rain warning has been issued for the Halifax area this morning.

The advisory is calling for between 50 millimetres (mm) and 70 mm of rain in our area and along the western and Atlantic coasts of Nova Scotia.

Environment Canada says the timeframe is today and tonight, noting that heavy rain and downpours will persist this morning but the intensity of the rain will diminish slightly this afternoon.

Tonight the rain will re-intensify giving heavy downpours during the evening before tapering off to showers overnight.

Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads.

Rainfall warnings are issued when significant rainfall is expected.
