According to the Halifax Regional Centre for Education (HRCE), their 137 schools will see more than 58,000 students return to their classrooms, an increase of more than 1,800 from last year.
HRCE said to accommodate the new students who are returning to their school routines, 68 portable and 141 modular classrooms will be pressed into service this year. More staff have been hired this year, bus routes have been adjusted, and two new schools, West Bedford and West Bedford High School, will open their doors this week,
Halifax Regional Police are again reminding drivers to pay extra attention now that students are returning to school. Drivers are reminded that it’s illegal to pass a school bus with its flashing red lights and slow down when entering school zones. The limit where children are present within school zones in the city is 30 km/h unless the posted speed limit in the area is higher than 50 km/h. In that case, the speed limit inside the school zone is 50.
HRP asks everyone to pack their patience and give themselves lots of time to get where they are going.
