HRP swears in three new four-legged recruits

The ranks of Halifax Regional Police (HRP) saw three new members officially sworn into service on Monday.

Police Horse Jewelz and Police Service Dogs Cain and Kron are now officially on duty.

Kron is three-years-old and finished his general service dog training last winter. He has been working with HRP and his handler, Cst. Andrew Joudrey since April of 2023.

Cain is 13-months-old and arrived in Halifax from Slovakia in April. Cain completed his training this summer and took his first tour with his handler, Cst. Joey Malcolm on Sept. 20.

Police Horse Jewelz is eight years old and is named after six fallen members of Halifax Regional Police. Officers say that Jewelz is a gentle horse that loves people and is excellent at navigating traffic.

HRP is also wishing Casey, a police serv a long and happy retirement. Casey has been working with Regional Police for the last seven years, successfully locating several missing people and finding important pieces of evidence. As a career highlight, Casey tracked down and apprehended a suspect involved in the stabbing of a Halifax Regional Police member. Casey will now spend her retirement as a family pet for her handler, Cst. Malcolm.
