The ‘M’ in QMJHL now stands for Maritimes

The QMJHL on Thursday announced a new name.

The league is now the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League, dropping the “major” from its name while keeping its acronym the same.

Commissioner Mario Cecchini said in a statement that recognizing the Maritimes Division’s importance to the league was a priority for him.

The name change passed unanimously at a league meeting on Thursday.

The QMJHL has also unveiled an English logo.
