Police investigate assault after incident at MLA’s office

Halifax Regional Police say a suspect has been identified after an assault that a local MLA says happened at his constituency office.

In a release, HRP says officers were called to the office on Herring Cove Rd. over the noon hour on Thursday to reports of a man entering the space and assaulting two people. The suspect then allegedly damaged the property before walking away.

Liberal MLA Brendan Macguire took to social media to say it was his office and his assistant that was the focus of the alleged attack.

According to police, the man responsible is believed to have also damaged the Captain William Spry Community Centre on Thursday.

He’s apparently been identified, and police are working to make an arrest in the case.
