More than 900 blood donations needed in N.S. ahead of the holidays

Nova Scotians are being asked to step up and give blood ahead of the holidays to ensure hospitals have the essentials they rely on.

According to Canadian Blood Services, the need for donations is great this time of year and there are still more than 900 blood donation appointments to fill in the province before January 7.

As spokesperson Kim Elliott told CityNews Halifax, every available appointment needs to be filled.

“The key is that our regular donors might be busy over the holidays with their regular holiday plans and may not think to make blood donation a part of that,” she says. “(So) that is what we are encouraging people to do.”

Elliott adds people can visit the fixed donor site on Bayers Road to help fill the some 700 appointments available in the Halifax area or visit their website to book an appointment.
