Wind and rainfall warnings issued ahead of Wednesday storm

Environment Canada has issued a wind and rainfall warning for most of Nova Scotia, including HRM.

The national forecaster says Wednesday will begin with about 5 cm of snow in the morning, and then that will change to rain, which will be heavy at times, around noon. The forecast calls for between 20 and 30 mm through the day, with higher amounts along the Atlantic coast.

The wind will also be a concern with this storm, with gusts between 50-80 km/h in the morning and increasing to 70-100 km/h in the afternoon. The strongest winds will be felt over exposed coastal areas.

Environment Canada says with rain saturating the ground, trees can be uprooted, and there is also a risk of power outages and damage to roof shingles and even windows.

The weather will be much worse west of Nova Scotia, with the majority of New Brunswick under a snowfall or winter storm warning, with areas expected to see snowfall amounts in the 20 cm range.
