HRP continues to investigate allegations against 2003 World Juniors team

Halifax Regional Police is continuing to investigate allegations of sexual assault made against Team Canada’s 2003 World Junior hockey team.

On Wednesday, reports emerged from the Globe & Mail that five members of Canada’s 2018 World Juniors hockey team in London, Ontario have been told to surrender to police to face sexual assault charges.

In an email, Halifax Regional Police constable John MacLeod told CityNews that the 2003 incident in Halifax remains under investigation but offered no further detail.

“The matter remains under investigation by members of the Sexual Assault Investigative Team (SAIT). It is not our practice to provide details or confirm any information that may jeopardize an ongoing investigation,” read a statement. “As with any investigation, investigators are gathering evidence, following up on leads, speaking with people who may have information in relation to the investigation and exploring numerous avenues to advance the investigation.”

The Halifax incident came to light in 2022 amid reports from TSN of an alleged video recording of a sexual assault involving members of the 2003 team.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Halifax Regional Police.
