The Halifax area and much of Nova Scotia is under a winter storm warning on with a nor’easter forecast to bring snow and strong winds to the province on Tuesday.

Environment Canada says in their Tuesday morning alert update that 15-25 cm of snow is now expected. Strong winds reaching up to 80 km/h in some areas may also be experienced by some .

The fresh snow and strong winds will combine to create some severe whiteout conditions. Environment Canada says visibility could “suddenly reduced to near zero at times”.

Meteorologist Ian Hubbard said the snow is expected to start mid-to-late afternoon Tuesday and intensify into the evening hours. He said the strongest winds are also expected in the evening.

Hubbard said confidence was growing for the storm’s impacts, but said the forecast could still change depending on the storm track. He cautions Nova Scotians to keep an eye on the forecast.
