Monday is eviction day at 5 HRM encampments

By CityNews Staff

It is eviction day for five Halifax-area encampments, but it remains to be seen if everyone will choose to leave.

The municipality said on Friday that about 25 of 55 people living at the encampments, including Grande Parade and Victoria Park, chose to move into other sheltering options.

HRM says it plans to work with people who refuse to leave, and officials previously said they wouldn’t get police involved in physically removing people. ()

HRM also says it is aware that there is a protest planned for today and is warning against violence.

Last week, a volunteer at Grande Parade said he didn’t think all of the people living there would leave by Monday.
