Mooseheads star Dumais charged for impaired driving, suspended 5 games

As Halifax moves into the postseason after clinching the Maritimes division crown, they will be without star forward Jordan Dumais for longer than expected.

Dumais, who is in the process of returning to the team after an injury, has now been suspended five games by the QMJHL.

In a release to the media, the League says Dumais violated both the Q-league and Moosheads’ code of conduct and began serving his suspension Thursday night.

The ruling means that Dumais will be out of the line-up for the remainder of the regular season and the first game of the playoffs.

No reason was given for the violation of the code of conduct, and both the League and the team said that they would no longer comment.

Halifax Regional Police have confirmed to CityNews that Dumais has been charged with impaired driving.

“March 1 at approximately 2:20 a.m. officers stopped a vehicle in the area of the 2000 block of Brunswick Street in Halifax for a traffic violation. Officers observed signs of impairment from the driver and arrested them. Jordan Dumais, 19, is scheduled to appear in Halifax provincial court at a later date to face charges of operating a conveyance while impaired and operating a conveyance with a blood alcohol over 80mg%.” said HRP Const Paul DesRochers.

The League did say The QMJHL demands exemplary behaviour from all its players, both on and off the ice. And since this was an off-ice infraction, the Mooseheads and the League handled the matter internally, jointly.
