Strike that was expected at NSCC averted after tentative deal is made

By CityNews Halifax Staff

It appears a strike has been narrowly avoided for faculty and staff and Nova Scotia Community College.

Late on Sunday, the college and the Atlantic Academic Union (AAU) released a statement that they reached a tentative collective agreement on behalf of faculty and professional support colleagues.

That means NSCC campuses are open and courses and student services will continue as usual for students today.

On Friday, the union representing over a thousand faculty and staff at the NSCC, released a statement saying talks on Thursday had been “unproductive” and job action appeared inevitable.

The AAU says it is recommending that its members accept the tentative agreements and that a ratification vote will be set this week.

According to the AAU and NSCC, details of the agreements will not be available until ratified.
