HRCE addresses bomb threats that recently impacted several schools in Halifax area

By CityNews Halifax Staff

The Halifax Regional Centre for Education has issued a statement regarding a raft of recent bomb threats that impacted some local schools.

On Tuesday, three schools, including Millwood High School, Halifax West High School and Park West High School all dismissed students early after threatening messages were found written on paper or bathroom stall doors.

In a statement released to families late Tuesday, HRCE Regional Executive Director Steve Gallagher wrote that “while all threats are taken seriously, these recent instances have been unfounded and incredibly disruptive”.

He goes on to say that “such threats have a negative impact on student learning, family routines and productive workplaces and “divert emergency services from our community.”

HRCE asks parents to talk to their kids about the seriousness of false threats and the impact it has on schools and the community.

The organization also saying instructors will “be taking the opportunity to engage in these important discussions with students” in classes today.
